Spinosaurus (Spinosaurus aegyptiacus) restoration

Spinosaurus was the largest carnivorous dinosaur that lived in North Africa during the Middle Cretaceous Period (about 99 million to 94 million years ago). It was up to 18 meters long, longer than Tyrannosaurus rex, and was characterized by a massive sail-like structure on its back (up to 1.7 meters high). Recent research suggests that Spinosaurus led a semi-aquatic life. In a study published in 2020, fossils of its tail were discovered: a flattened, flexible structure like a paddle, perfect for moving underwater. Its bone density allowed it to control its buoyancy underwater, while its crocodile-like conical teeth and long snout were optimized for hunting fish. The original fossils were destroyed in the bombing of Munich during World War II.
