Discovery

Argentinosaurus is a titanosaurid sauropod that lived in South America during the Middle Cretaceous Period (approximately 94 to 97 million years ago) and is one of the largest and heaviest land animals in history. With an estimated length of 30 to 40 meters and a weight of 65 to 80 tons, it weighed about the same as a Boeing 737 airliner. A single vertebrae found is 1.3 meters tall, which gives you an idea of its size. It is estimated that it would have had to eat around 500 kilograms of plants per day to maintain its enormous size.
