Plesiosaurus was a primitive sauropod that lived in Europe during the Late Triassic period (about 214 to 240 million years ago). It is a distant ancestor of giant sauropods such as Brachiosaurus and Diplodocus. It is one of the most discovered dinosaurs in Europe, with more than 100 individuals found in Germany, Switzerland, France, and elsewhere. It was one of the first dinosaurs to be scientifically named.
